AWANA
What is AWANA?

AWANA is a ministry program to meet the spiritual needs of children, teens and adults.

AWANA, which stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, is taken from II Timothy 2:15, where the Apostle Paul says “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This indeed is what the AWANA program is all about with its goals being to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.

In order to minister more effectively to each boy or girl on his or her own level, the AWANA program is divided into six clubs and two youth groups.

What role does AWANA play at Northside Baptist Church?

AWANA is an effective method for Northside Baptist Church to reach and meet the spiritual needs of children, youth and adults in Carrollton and greater north Dallas area for Christ. The weekly club ministry gives young people an opportunity to hear a clear presentation of the gospel. Children and teens are provided with an exciting and challenging biblical curriculum. Unique games ensure that kids have lots of fun.

Having AWANA also presents an opportunity to recruit and train lay people to assume leadership roles within the club programs. Church members who become AWANA leaders receive proven training and personal experience in evangelism and discipleship.

AWANA Clubs International must charter all churches using the AWANA program. Northside Baptist Church was the 7,101st AWANA Club to be chartered by AWANA Clubs International. Therefore, the charter number for Northside Baptist Church’s AWANA Clubs is 7 1 0 1.

The AWANA Charter is an agreement between AWANA Clubs International, a non-denominational organization, and the Church that enables the church to use the AWANA ministry. The Charter indicates that the Church has authorized the club and that the club has filed at AWANA Headquarters the names and addresses of its pastor(s), Commander, Directors, and leaders.

A summary of the agreement as well as the AWANA Doctrinal Statement (to which adherence is part of the agreement) can be found at http://www.awana.org/parents/default.aspx?id=19.
